VISIT MAR PICCOLO TARANTO – THE BATTENDIERI MONASTERY AND A TOUR BY KAYAK

DESCRIPTION
Visit Mar PiccoloTaranto. Two are the jewels still remarkably preserved that we will discover and appreciate during this guided tour: the Battendieri monastery that many years ago was connected to a wool washing structure and the WWF protected area “Palude la Vela”, both of them located close one another, in an evocative landscape, with the relaxing sound of the Cervaro river. We are on the seaside of the second basin of the “Mar Piccolo”, an authentic lagoon. Other than the cellars of the monks and the little chapel of the 17th century, some other structures conceived to beat and wash the wool can be visited nearby: this special location was due to the particular quality of the water that, thanks to the bleaching plants growing in the river, could optimize the wool washing procedure.
In the second part of the visit Mar Piccolo Taranto, we will move to the meeting point of our canoeing tour, in the heart of the “Mar Piccolo” natural reserve: here some people nowadays enhances and makes accessible one of the most important element for the city life: indeed these two inner basins preserve a significant and rich biodiversity.
