Trani old city center is a fascinating maze of medieval streets, twisting and turning along a picturesque fishing port which is made alive by the several cafes, bars and seafood restaurants. In the Roman period there was the first urbanization of the city, known as Turenum; anyway, every period that followed the roman one had a specific importance: the city was in fact the place where the largest Jewish community of the southern Italy settled, a favorite stop for the Templar Knights in the Middle Ages, here the first navigation codes were conceived, it was a Lombard and a Swabian stronghold, as well as an intense commercial hub for many aristocratic families and for the famous maritime republics. With our walking tour we will go through all these periods and of course we will stop for a special visit of the “Queen of the Cathedrals”, as it was dubbed by the French archaeologist François Lenormant, especially for the monumental and refined architecture that makes it one of the most beautiful and impressive Romanesque Cathedrals but also for its splendid location dominating the Adriatic sea.
