GUIDED TOURS OSTUNI ITALY – LIGHT LUNCH WITH OLIVE OIL AND TYPICAL PRODUCTS
TOUR DURATION: HALF DAY TOUR
GUIDED TOURS OSTUNI DESCRIPTION
Ostuni is only 8 km far from the Adriatic coast, in the heart of a beautiful area where there is the most interesting concentration of thousand-year-old olive trees, characterizing the landscape of the low Murge and being the symbol of the whole region. Built on three hills, Ostuni is known as the White City for its look that makes easy for anyone to recognize it from far; but we also have to say that the city is also important because of an interesting Paleolithic settlement maybe linked to the discovery of Delia, the “oldest mother in the world”: we will find out who she is and why she made the city so noble and famous! But the very first settlement dates back to the Messapian period, while most of the buildings that we will admire in the old city center covers a time lapse of three centuries starting from the fortification of the 15th century. Our first stop will be the Liberty Square, where social and fancy life is concentrated; this wide space encloses and presents a series of buildings and visible excavations showing the past as well as the present of the city. Going up to the highest part of the old city centre hill we will find the magnificent Gothic-Romanesque Cathedral dedicated to the Assumption with one of the most symbolic rose window that the Region still preserves. We will then come back to our starting point from a different and charming path, made of whitewashed streets full of night clubs, and an amazing view … and the sea will be there again, right in front of you! The place for our light lunch will be just a few steps away: inside, the ambiance is old fashion, simple and elegant and you can also choose to have your meal on the terrace outside, in a very pleasant location.
