GUIDED TOURS MOLFETTA DESCRIPTION
Halfway between Bari and Trani, Molfetta is a city characterized by a strong connection with sea and agriculture because of the abundance of fruits and vegetables and for the intense olive oil production. The first settlement dates back to the Neolithic, as the incredible beauty of the “Pulo” testifies: it’s a prehistoric site situated just 2 kilometers away from the city, a large karstic depression rich in biodiversity. Anyway we know about the city’s existence since the Roman period even though the earliest evidences date back to the 10th -11th century: they are visible in the several churches, in the defending walls and in the charming little streets leading from one side to the ancient Cathedral and from the other side to the City Hall square where once towered the Castle. Remarkable also some of the buildings that we will find along the old town’s perimeter and dating back to the period following the French sack of Molfetta in 1529: we are talking about the Passari Tower enclosed today in the Galante Gadaleta Palace where we will admire a spectacular landscape on the Adriatic Sea and on the surrounding towns. At the end of our visit we will stop for a visit of the St. Conrad’s Cathedral dating back to the 12th century, close to the dock where we previously met: it’s an exceptional example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, peculiar for its aligned three domes visible on the central nave and a pitched roof covered with overlapped limestone slabs. Before moving to the fashion district, we will stop for a while to take some pictures at the Pulo and finally consecrate the rest of the afternoon to the Miragica Park, a fairground for children close to a really special mall: a real citadel composed by several outdoor shops where there will be the opportunity to have lunch and take advantage of high quality items at special prices!
