GUIDED TOURS TO THE TRULLI OF ALBEROBELLO ITALY : THE WORLD UNESCO HERITAGE – LOCOROTONDO: THE “SEAFRONT” TERRACINGS
TOUR DURATION: FULL DAY TOUR
GUIDED TOURS ALBEROBELLO AND LOCOROTONDO DESCRIPTION
We are in the heart of the Itria Valley, an area taking its name from the byzantine icon of the particular Virgin here often represented. The morning will be dedicated to one of the symbols of the Region: Alberobello and its famous conical dwellings: the trulli. We will visit two of the most representative districts of the city and I will show you the reason why people started to build here with the dry-stone technique. We will have lunch right outside the city inside a trullo, in a very typical area or, as usual, you will be free to stop and have lunch on your own during your free time in one of the famous butchers of the city. In the afternoon we will meet in Locorotondo, a village at 410m above the sea level to find out dubbed “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy”. The little and very well-preserved city center is characterized by whitewashed houses, the so-called “cummerse” surrounding the typical shape of the city. Easily accessible on foot, the village offers a quiet and relaxed atmosphere; through a series of tangled lanes, we will be able to admire the hidden treasures of the Madonna della Greca, down of the city, the Cathedral and as a recurrent background, many flower balconies decorating the houses and the ancient noble palazzi. At the end of our visit we will be welcomed at the “seafront” from the staff of the vineyards composing the external terracings of the village for a very special wine tasting: five local wines will be poured by an experienced sommelier who will help us understand the different properties and qualities of the wines served with local appetizers.
